Dp you know how many people I come across who don't care about the getting ready part of their day? At least half. It is one of the most under appreciated part of the wedding day but meaningful things happen in the time leading up the that moment dad walks you down the aisle.
Let me just give you a an idea on what that time is for wedding photography.
1) ITS WHERE THE DETAILS ARE CAPTURED.
You have spent so much time picking out what jewelry your wearing, what shoes will be worn, picking invitations, each part of his suit/tux, and those gifts for your wedding party. This is when your photographer brings those parts together in artful ways and makes sure that the smallest things are getting documented. This is also where your story starts.
2) ITS WHERE YOU HAVE RELAXED MOMENTS WITH YOUR BRIDESMAID/GROOMSMEN
You have your drinks and kids are running around, there is a theme of anticipation in the room but if your day is planned well and your HMUA is running on time there are natural relaxed moments that just happen while hanging out with the people your trusted to be there with you on your wedding day. They are there for the laughs and the cheers and to help with those last finishing touches. These are meaningful moments that no one is really planning for and 100% apart of the story.
3) REMEMBERING THE GIFTS YOU GIVE EACH OTHER.
This stands for for bride + groom gifts as well as wedding party gifts. Its the little things in life that put smiles on peoples faces and little gifts make lots of smiles. The gifts that you two are giving each other are opened before you see each other... but don't you want to know their reaction?? especially if you spent time searching the internet for a replica of a baseball glove that he had growing up?
PS. This is also why a second photographer is a good idea. None of these moments get missed.
4) YOUR MOM AND DAD!
We tend to forget that this is a BIG moment for our parents as well and I regret not having my mom at my house while I got ready with my girls. I thought it was just better to puck our parents up later because ...traffic but I think It would have ben really nice to have her there. When mom's are there to help with the last details its just soooo sweet. Ever more so - when brides chose to do a first look with Dad, or he just stops on by... I never have a dry eye.
5) THOSE WINDOW PORTRAITS.
Some of the best portraits of brides or grooms are the window portraits just after they are dressed. Those are precious. Natural light and natural beauty. I recommend everyone do it if the space allows. They can be soft and sweet but also super dramatic and masculine. I especially love this with the guys .
So DON'T Skip out on the getting ready part of the day. There are integral parts your story and meaningful moments that happen before you even get dressed. and to prepare for this DO make sure that the space is decluttered, the shades are open, and the music is setting the mood for the day!
Happy Wedding Season!
