Phew, what. A. Year. September to Christmas was a whirlwind for me. I barely slept between weddings, editing, family shoots, babies, and mini sessions. My birthday flew by, my License expired and I didn’t notice til TSA told me this month, I celebrated holidays with friends and family, wrapped presents, and ate a lot. Like I said, I had so much fun doing it all and wouldn’t trade it. Here is a peek of what those 4 months looked like for me. THE FAMILIES AND KIDDOS: Fall of course is the best time for outdoor photos with texture and that sun glow. Weather didn’t play nice this fall so there weren’t as many as everyone would have liked but the few that caught the nice days had some super cute moments.
MICHAEL WAS BAPTIZED: over the summer I got to welcome home baby Michael (link) and in early October I got to document his baptism. He was Baptized at St Mary’s in Lake Forest and then partied at their new family Home afterwards.
S’MORES MINI SESSIONS: Although they weren’t as popular as I anticipated them to be , I did enjoy the time I had with the families that came out to enjoy some s’mores by the fire. Through sticky smiles I had some fun family shots.
FALL WEDDINGS: I shoot weddings on my own and for other photographers. Most of the time I am shooting for Tim Hara who has some of the coolest weddings. I got to shoot a wedding on a yacht, at the newly renovated Renaissance hotel (😍), a few pretty country clubs and a brew pub. I also photographed a wedding with Dana Chaplin in Sycamore and the couple got to have their own pie eating contest at the pumpkin fest. It was adorable.
FALL ENGAGEMENTS: With my foray into wedding I had a few engagement sessions that were cute. Jenna and Eric on Eric's family farmland in Union, IL. the weather did not cooperate with a sunset but they still had some great moments. Their story will be told more in depth soon. As will Diana & Brian, who’s Chicago engagement was pretty and sweet.... looking forward to their wedding in July. 💜
CHRISTMAS MINIS: I had a few of them, the Christmas tree minis (that weather got in the way again), Family Traditions, and Pop Up Studio. Here are the highlights of all the cuties I saw.
ASHLEY & ROB: A December wedding in Harvard, IL. It was cold outside but the love in the building was warming. I will tell more of their story a bit later. For now.....
2018 Phew, that was a lot. So I took January off. Had plans for February but they got derailed with some personal things..... So, March will be the official kick off of 2018 for me. I did, however, squeeze in a website rebuild, marketing planning, Anti-Valentine Pop Up Sessions, the beginning of a 52 Week project, and its award season. Award season? Yes, award season. Just like the Grammys and oscars, the industry does a few contests and such this time of the year. I am participating in Shoot and Share. It’s an industry contest where my peers will vote on photos.... it’s almost wrapped up and when the results are out in mid-March, I will fill you in. Here was a look at a few of the anti-valentines shoots.....
What 2018 brings for Victoria McDonald Photography: I have decided what a I want to focus on. Weddings, Couples, Newborn Lifestyle shoots, and Family Lifestyle. That means maternity, styled newborn or posed newborn, styled family shoots or styled kid shoots I will not be doing. I do however, know who to send you to. I love the emotion that lifestyle brings and it brings me joy to shoot those photos. This also means I won’t be doing more than MAYBE one Mini session per year. Instead, Each month I will be offering something else that will be unique in the narrative it could tell. Like.... the Family Traditions Shoot around Christmas.... that will be back. To get these you need to be either be a subscriber to my webpage or a member of the VIP group that I will announce with the exciting things March will bring... Hint: it’s my second favorite month.... I was married in March and you know I like celebrating life events. NEXT STEPS: Stay tunes, share this, and subscribe. 🤓
